Dear Colleagues and Friends

I have recently been appointed by the Department of Health as Ireland’s nominee to lead on the EU Joint Action on Frailty.

From my understanding this new role serves as a link between Irish sites and the other partners within the Joint Action including those that have been nominated to lead this at an EU level. At present this is Spain, which is represented by Prof Leocadio Rodríguez Mañas from the Hospital Universitario de Getafe near Madrid. As part of the Joint Action a series of work packages and specific tasks have been proposed. Each work package has a named lead (institution), as do the specific tasks. Commitments will be followed over time by the coordinator of the Joint Action (currently Prof Leocadio Rodríguez Mañas). Dissemination and evaluation leads have also been appointed.

At present the following WPs have been proposed:

-WP: “Knowing frailty at an individual level

-WP: “lKnowing frailty at a population level

-WP: “Managing frailty (individual level)

-WP: “Organising the Management of Frail people. Models of care

-WP: “Extending and Expanding the knowledge on frailty

If you or your institution would like further information with a view to participating within the Joint Action at a future time, please let me know ronan.ocaoimh@nuigalway.ie . Alternatively, if you feel there is an institution that would be in a position to contribute to one or more of the WPs, kindly forward me the details of same.

Thank you and kind regards
