Remembering Professor Davis Coakley

How sad we are at the passing of one of Ireland’s greatest geriatricians and scholars, known to many of us at the IGS. Professor Davis Coakley was President of the IGS from 1990-1994 and secretary from 1982-1989 and received the IGS Presidents Medal in 2016.

Davis died peacefully at home, after an illness borne with great courage and dignity. Sadly missed by his loving wife Mary, their sons Peter, Stephen, John Davis and James and extended family.

Davis, a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians Ireland, Lond, Edin, Glas and Hon fellow Trinity College Dublin, is one of the most respected physicians and medical academics on these islands, who championed the development of geriatric medicine throughout the country. As a direct result of his initiatives, physicians in the specialty now form the largest subspecialty in medicine in Ireland.

We remember some of Davis' many achievements in the attached document.
